A downloadable Cancelled Build for Windows

NOTE: THIS IS A CANCELLED BUILD!

This version of the game will no longer be in development. There will be a version with a new engine(Known as (Mario) The Music Box RESET). This version (Revamped) is the game in its incomplete state. There will be bugs. However, I have tried the best I could to squish many of them. Some features may be incomplete or missing. I decided to release this cancelled build for people to get a taste what the updated one will be like. 


A new and improved updated version of (Mario) The Music Box ARC

This version features new maps and new CGs!

(Mario) The Music Box -ARC- (pronounced as "ark") Is the extension to the "Missing" ending in it's previous game. This game is also meant to explain some backstory to Alice and Riba and the demise of their lovely family.

CHOOSE YOUR PATH

You can pick your path to be sane or insane. Your choices matter in this game. Certain events will be changed. Whatever side you choose will determine what endings you will get.

Install instructions

Remember to extract the game to a path. Do not run the game via zip. Running the game through a the .zip will cause it to not create save data.

Unfortunately, the game is detected as a false positive with antiviruses. If you can, make an exemption specifically for (Mario) The Music Box ARC.

Make sure you have the Visual studio redistributable. You can download it here!

People are talking about the cutscenes (I assume they mean the .mp4 files) and that appears to be working fine for me. I can see the intro AMV, the recap, and the other one that plays right before the gameplay. 

What's broken for *me* is accessing the save-date screen (it crashes, and sometimes throws a Script-error message). 

> FIXED (i think?) - In order for the save-screen to work, you must: 

1) have the C++ VC redistribution (obvious, but I forgot). 

2) not have any save files from the previous game in the ARC folder.

3) Have "smooth mode" turned OFF (accessed with F1). 


Of course this is not intended behavior, but players can definitely work around it. The game is by no means unplayable.

Hello, we are aware of the current issue of cutscene videos playing. Unfortunately windows updated something on their backend which made the videos unplayable. We are working on a fix ASAP!

Final Thoughts on the revamp (sane route): What I did like:

  • For challenge segments having a alt restart menu is deemed very helpful for after first deaths
  • The artstyle has improved a ton since the original arc
  • scenes that were all dark before most had a redo or had a scene made for it. map or CG
  • the dialogue being changed a bit definitely feels more right to do
  • new map graphics for Mario definetly helps with detail and I love it
  • the fact we actually got to use the chainsaw
  • the rooms feel more abandoned and they feel more polished and ready to go as if they were really abandoned
  • ending the demo like a cliffhanger with a transition and everything really closes out for a cancelled build What I didn’t like:
  • having the button for actions like chainsaw and breath holding being Z instead of shift is misleading and very confusing (These don’t count seeing it’s RPG MAKER XP)
  • the game has weird quirks for fullscreen
